Very Merry Christmas Market 2020

Spreading the Christmas Cheer while raising $65,000 for paediatric brain cancer.

On the 3rd December, a sunny 26 degree day in Royal Avenue Park, it was difficult to believe how wild the year 2020 has been. Starting off the festive season with our very own Very Merry Christmas Market we sought to raise spirits, raise funds, and bring together a previously isolated community.

With restrictions in place we had a venue change from Liz’s house to the park over the road. This allowed for more people to join in the fun and wander around with more space to sit and relax while taking in the entertainment that filled the air with beautiful music.

It was the year of firsts with the Brother Trucker food truck joining in the festivities and providing all the hungry Elves and shoppers with some delicious Thai street food. Alongside the Limoncello Cafe coffee cart returning for another year.

Keeping to tradition we kept plenty of our old favourites in our produce section, boasting a full range of sweets, sauces, and baking delights. Including fruit mince pies, gingerbread houses, ready to make brownie/cookie packs, hot sauce, and BBQ sauce. All homemade by our amazing supporters and volunteers. Everyone loved it all so much that the whole produce tent sold out by mid afternoon!

But that didn’t mean the end of the market, we still had plenty of gifts, decorations and merch available for purchase all day. There were different gifts to suit everyone including RCD picnic rugs, the Sara candle from Mister Zimi, Bandanas,  and of course some RCD Christmas Happy Socks!

The highlight of the decorations this year were beautiful little Santa and animal shaped figures to brighten up any Christmas tree alongside the annual RCD ornament that was as popular as ever.

All the ornaments and produce weren’t the only popular space at the market. The Silent Auction bloomed this year to an amazing 70 items to be bid on, spanning the online platform of Instagram and in person at the market. From super soft dog beds to a 3L Magnum champagne bottle, not a single item was left unbid upon.

The 2020 Very Merry Christmas market was a wonderful success with everyone leaving with their bags full and smiles wide knowing that the gifts they have purchased will help fund paediatric brain cancer matters.
