“When Connor was in the fight of his life, he enjoyed a weekly yoga class. At one class, his yoga teacher asked him to make an affirmation to use as a mantra he could use for meditation. She suggested he start with “I will…”. Connor spontaneously came up with “I will be awesome”. And awesome he certainly was and will always be.

Now, every year, our 4500 Connor’s Run participants add the same affirmation to their running bibs in honour of Connor.

So that all of us can be awesome forever, we’ve created the Connor’s I Will Circle.

Joining the Connor’s I Will Circle and leaving a gift in your will for the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation will have a huge impact on the lives of young people with brain cancer, the number one disease killer of young people.

You could help find a cure for paediatric brain cancer, make a young person with brain cancer’s heart and mind sing by supporting music therapy for them or help develop the next generation of researchers who may go on to bring life-changing trials back to Australia to help find a cure.

Just look at the wonderful difference our current donors have enabled:

  • Created and fully funded the AIM BRAIN Project – every child diagnosed receives a complete genomic diagnosis of their disease
  • Investment in the quality and quantity of clinical trials to double the number of clinical trials in Australia
  • Investment in immunotherapy at WEHI
  • Established a national music therapy referral program for at-home music therapy

Your legacy can live on by supporting these life-changing projects and more.

Will Bosma and Sharon Househam on why they decided to join the I Will Circle.

My wife and I have given both time and financial help to a number of charities for many years. We felt it important to include some of them in our Will to continue that support for generations to come.

I was first made aware of the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation through my company and business association with Connor’s father, Scott, but it was hearing about the very human tragedy of so many parents losing children to brain tumours – and with so little research and clinical investment being made in this area – that made me want to support it on a deeper, more committed and legacy basis.

We have three sons. The trauma of losing one of them is unimaginable. To think that more research could prevent even one child’s death makes any gift vitally important – and a gift in Will most important of all.

We have, of course, made provision for our boys – but we have chosen to divide our residual estate between charities that we feel strongly about. The Robert Connor Dawes Foundation is one of them.

I’m doing Connor’s Run again this year, so I’d better get out on my training route. Maybe see you on the day…

How to include the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation in your will

After you’ve considered the needs of your loved ones, you may consider leaving a gift for the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation.

Gifts can come in many forms, from a residual percentage of your estate, to a set amount, to other assets such as property, artwork, shares or part of your Superannunation.

The RCD recommends you seek legal advice to draw up your will.

If you already have a will, you can add a codicil with the suggested wording below and add that to your will and let your solicitor and executors know. It’s also important to discuss this with your family to ensure they understand your wishes and intentions.

 Suggested wording:

“I bequeath [the whole/a percentage/something specific/residue] of my estate to the Robert Connor Dawes (RCD) Foundation of 39 Royal Ave, Sandringham, VIC 3191 ABN 49 126 106 682 for purposes that it shall determine, and this bequest will be free from all duties. The receipt of this bequest by any authorised officer of the Robert Connor Dawes (RCD) Foundation shall form valid discharge to my executor”.
