SMJFL PARTNERS WITH THE ROBERT CONNOR DAWES FUND IN 2014
The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) has chosen the Robert Connor Dawes (RCD) Fund as its official charity partner for 2014. The SMJFL will be supporting the RCD Fund through this year’s SMJFL NAB Lightning Carnivals, which will be held on Saturday 26th July, Sunday 27th July & Sunday 3rd August.

In order to raise funds, the SMJFL, in conjunction with the RCD Fund, are asking all participants in the SMJFL NAB Lightning Carnivals to provide a gold coin donation. The Lightning Carnivals will involve over 3,100 players participating in 134 teams. The gold coin donation will provide a significant funding boost to the RCD Fund.
In addition to the gold coin donation by players, there will be collection tins placed around the venues for family members and spectators to show their support. RCD Fund volunteers will also be roaming the grounds with collection tins throughout the competition.

Players will be provided with grey tape to place on their jumpers in order to promote awareness of the issue. The colour grey was chosen as it represents the colour of the brain cancer awareness.

Jake McCauley, General Manager of the SMJFL said of the announcement, “the SMJFL is delighted to be partnering with the RCD Fund in 2014. The RCD Fund is a well-known local charity who are based in Bayside and raise much needed awareness and funds for a worthy cause. We look forward to the entire SMJFL community getting behind the RCD Fund at the upcoming SMJFL NAB Lightning Carnivals.”
Liz was thrilled saying that “having the South Metro Junior Football League supporting our efforts is just wonderful. Our greatest supporters have been young people and its uplifting to see this continue with the addition of the SMJFL.”

Both we and SMJFL would like to take this opportunity to thank the National Australia Bank (NAB), who are the naming rights partner of the SMJFL Umpires & SMJFL NAB Lightning Carnivals, as well as a sponsor of the RCD Fund. NAB is a valued partner of both organisations and we look forward to their support of the SMJFL / RCD Fund activations at the SMJFL NAB Lightning Carnivals.
